Following the UK launch of Barnes & Noble’s Nook device, many people assumed that the company’s PubIt! self-publishing system would soon become available for UK authors to use. But no. However, B&N has no announced a set of new features to help US authors sell their titles in the UK market, which I guess is progress of sorts.
PubIt! authors can set UK-specific prices if they so wish, or they can let the system automatically set a price based on their US figure. The royalty rates are 40% for all books except those between £1.50 and £7.99, with the latter getting a 65% rate; that’s not quite the same as the US rates, but it’s close enough to be not worth quibbling.
