Book Review: Perks of Being a Wallflower

The perfect book for the coming-of-age adolescent, Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephan Chbosky is a book that delves into the theme of high schoolers who are trying to find their way into the world.  This book causes its readers to plunge deep into their own minds and think about how they interact with and treat others. Charlie, a troubled adolescent, arrives at high school to find that it is much more difficult than he imagined. The mix of troubled feelings, drama, the suicide of his friend and his emotionally detached family make this novel engaging and honest. This book is not an over glorification of high school. It is insightful— with a cast of characteristics to whom young readers can relate, value and appreciate.
